The government partially accepts this recommendation. The Armed Forces have and continue to play an important role in preparing for and responding to emergencies, providing unique capabilities to support civil authorities. The Civil Contingencies Secretariat will continue to work with the Armed Forces to share best practice and improve operational expertise in emergencies in public bodies. However, the government also recognises the importance of ensuring that civilian agencies are equipped with the necessary resources and training to lead the response to future emergencies.
