While Ciproxin has been licensed since 1986 (The Phillipines) and used widely since its marketing authorisation in Europe in 1987, during clinical trials of ciprofloxacin, when usage of the product has been monitored closely under controlled conditions, no cases of self-harm, suicidal ideation and attempted or completed suicide were reported_ However; marketing authorisation very rare cases of self-harming behaviour have been reported in patients prescribed ciprofloxacin in standard clinical use. We have focussed on the course of ciprofloxacin that was given to him to take following his prostate biopsy procedure, and have considered Whether the statutoremnformation currently provided by the MHRA to prescribers on the safe use of these medicines contains all necessary information. Looking at the events relevant to these considerations, it is reported that Mr Rendell was investigated with a needle biopsy of the prostate on 19 Sept 2016 for the possibility of prostate cancer. After the procedure, he was given ciprofloxacin 500 mg tablets to take twice for period of 5 it is reported that Mr Rendell had no history of depression or othercmenta health problems. However; on the fourth of ciprofloxacin tablets, he became confused, agitated and was found wandering 10 miles from home.
