Summary: Miss B complained her appeal for a place for her daughter at School 1 was unsuccessful. She said the Council offered her daughter a place at School 2, some distance away, and because her daughter was not of compulsory school-age it would not offer school transport. Miss B said C was not able to attend School 2 and this affected her social and academic development. We found fault with the Council for failing to record its decision not to hold appeals by telephone or video conference. The Council has since offered C a place at School 1 which remedied any injustice to C and Miss B.

Summary: Mr X complained about the care received by his father, Mr F, when he was at Ashley Lodge Care Home. The Care Provider and Council have already admitted some of the record-keeping was poor. The Council should ensure staff at the Care Home are reminded of the importance of accurate record keeping to prevent any future reoccurrence of this fault.

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about this Council’s alleged failure to safeguard the complainant’s son because it is late and there are no grounds to consider it now.

Summary: The Council was at fault in delaying the consideration of Mrs B’s complaint at Stage 2 of the statutory procedure for children’s services complaints. The Council will now begin Stage 2 and has agreed to offer to make a payment to Mrs B.

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Council charging 8% interest on his mother’s care costs. This is because it is unlikely we would find fault with the Council’s actions. We are also unable to investigate Mr X’s complaint about the Council failing to update him on accumulating costs of the care as this is a late complaint and there is no good reason for us to investigate this now.
