The pandemic has placed an unprecedented burden on the delivery of core NHS and care...
Conclusion
The pandemic has placed an unprecedented burden on the delivery of core NHS and care services. This has resulted in the delay, suspension or cancellation of services which in turn has inevitably led to a significant increase in waiting times, the backlog of appointments and pent-up demand for medical treatments. We are concerned that this has, in part, been created as a result of many individuals being too scared to access the medical treatment they require because they are uncertain as to whether NHS services are safe to use.

The Government recognises the unprecedented burden that the pandemic has placed on the delivery of core NHS and care services. The Government is committed to ensuring that patients are able to access the medical treatment they require. NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE/I) have launched a number of campaigns to reassure patients that it is safe to access NHS services. These campaigns have included messages about the steps that the NHS is taking to protect patients from infection, such as social distancing and wearing face masks.
