While we acknowledge the costs of policy changes to the food industry, these are marginal when compared to the huge costs of inaction on obesity to society, the economy and the health service. In the event that policy relating to the healthiness of food is delayed or substantially changed, Parliament must be given a timely update as to the reasons why and what impact these changes would have on the effectiveness of the measure in reducing obesity, and costs to the NHS and the wider economy of not proceeding as originally planned.
