There is much appetite for shared ownership, but careful consideration is needed to ensure contracts are mutually-beneficial and prevent free-riders. Scotland and Denmark provide examples of where the voluntary approach to shared ownership has failed and where mandating shared ownership has had positive impacts for community energy, respectively.
