The Government should publish the detailed response to each of the NFSIR’s recommendations that it has drawn up within Whitehall as part of its response to this Report.

The Government is acutely aware of the impact that workforce shortages are having in the food supply chain and works closely with industry to monitor the situation, and help our world- leading farmers and food producers access the labour and skills they need. The Government thanks John Shropshire for his review. We are currently considering the recommendations and intend to publish a response before the end of the year. The response will consider how government can support the sector to access the labour it needs, alongside actions to reduce the sector’s reliance on migrant labour. This includes work on automation and promoting domestic labour procurement and training.
