Noting that this recommendation was made in relation to precision breeding, the government does not accept this recommendation. Negotiations with the EU on an SPS Agreement are underway. Both the UK and the EU have committed to completing negotiations before the next UK/ EU summit. Defra officials have regularly engaged devolved governments on the Precision Breeding Act, implementing Regulations and SPS negotiations related to precision breeding, and will continue to do so. This engagement recognises that movement of agrifood trade and regulatory requirements operate within a devolved policy space, and that close collaboration is essential.
