The Government has been clear on the need to address Iran’s destabilising regional behaviour, and we note the Committee’s recommendation that this should form a core part of any strategy to improve upon the JCPoA. Our priority remains to promote security and stability in the region and we will continue to engage with all sides and all options to that end. Any long-term sustainable solution will require the support not just of the Gulf Cooperation Council but also other regional actors including Iran. We remain deeply concerned at Iran’s destabilising activity throughout the region, including its political, financial and military support to a number of militant and proscribed groups, including the Houthis, Hezbollah and Shia Militia Groups, and we are committed to working with regional partners, the E3 and the US to find a sustainable solution to Iranian proliferation and wider destabilising activity. We agree that the UK is well placed to engage closely with members of the Gulf Cooperation Council to help build regional and international consensus and we continue to do so.
