The Government agrees with the Committee that it is important to ensure competence of local authority building control teams and that their work is properly monitored. However, the Government does not agree with the Committee that the Bill should place an explicit duty on the regulator to monitor and assure the competence of local authority building control teams through provisions comparable to those for the registration of building control approvers.
