Conclusion
We are concerned that some individuals will have received inflated State Pension forecasts because these did not show deductions for contracting out. Some of them may have lost the opportunity to do things differently, for example, to continue working for longer or to save more. Individuals are asked to take responsibility to save for retirement and it is essential that the government plays its part by communicating accurately and in a timely manner. It is deeply concerning to find another instance where the department’s communications appear to have fallen short. (Conclusion, Paragraph 143)
