The BBC told us that it tried to make the sign-up process as simple as possible, while at the same time giving the user control, and was very conscious of accessibility and different digital familiarity levels.45 The BBC described to us how it was vital to help users find what they were looking for as easily as possible, and that it used data to match users to content and so tried to provide the best kind of shortcut connection.46 It said there was a mix of how it made recommendations to users; with human-selected and curated stories and also algorithmically recommended content.47
