On 15 May 2025 the Minister for Services, Small Business and Exports issued a statement announcing that the Department will not renew the contract with NATIS, instead the Insolvency Service will take over the remaining casework.54 In the accompanying press release the Department confirmed that the decision to appoint NATIS has cost the taxpayer approximately £38.5m, resulting in only 14 convictions, with the amount recovered unclear. The Department confirmed problems with NATIS governance and reporting of recoveries, that public money was not being spent effectively, and that the Insolvency Service would take over NATIS’s viable investigation cases.
