The Government should introduce a successor to the High Streets Taskforce, to steer implementation of the new powers for local authorities set out in the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Bill. As a first step, alongside the Government’s guidance, the taskforce should provide more tailored support to local authorities on how they can best engage with communities and businesses to develop their town centres.
