In its strategy on Reading for Pleasure, the Department should set out the core elements of good practice shown by schools who have achieved the Open University’s Reading for Pleasure Quality Mark for schools and set out guidance on how all schools can deliver this. As part of this, the Department should set out expectations for all schools to include protected time in the school day for reading and discussions about books with examples of how this can be achieved that are relevant both to primary and secondary schools up to key stage three.
