The Department must monitor the impact of the year eight reading test and be open to feedback from the sector as to how it is working. If feedback shows that year eight is too late to identify pupils needing additional support with reading, the Department should consider moving the test to an earlier stage of education. We will follow up on this at regular intervals. (Recommendation, Paragraph 146)
