The Department for Education and Department for Culture, Media and Sport should take steps to facilitate data-sharing between schools and public libraries, to enable measures such as auto-enrolment of children to libraries and help children to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge. This can make use of the single child identifier once established. The Departments should work closely with the Information Commissioner’s Office to provide local authorities with clear guidance and support as to how this can be done within the confines of GDPR legislation.
