Recommendation
There is still a long road to travel in terms of improving the diversity in the texts available to children. Too many children still do not see themselves represented in books, and, while some progress has been made, the trends in this area are concerningly variable. The literary industry cannot afford to be complacent about this issue. We urge the publishing and bookselling industries to make this a real priority and throw their energy behind work to effect meaningful and lasting change in the diversity of texts that are published, marketed and sold.
