Coroner's Concerns
During the course of the inquest I heard evidence to suggest that the life saving equipment used by the life guards was either lacking or defective and there was a substantial delay before the arrival of an ambulance The MATTER OF CONCERN is as follows_ The emergency did not contain suction equipment to clear the airways A hole in the ambubag used in the resuscitation attempts prevented the flow of oxygen The defibrillator used during resuscitation was inoperable given it was found to have no batteries of 45 minutes to obtain a replacement defibrillator Absence of equipment to the casualty Substantial delay before the arrival of the ambulance and doctor for emergency treatment: ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN In my opinion action should be taken to prevent future deaths and I would ask you to review the following: The effectiveness of the existing life saving equipment and procedures for checking their reliability The training for lifeguards in the use of the life saving equipment The provision of information to holidaymakers in respect of the beach warning systems and local hazards of the sea conditions: The response times for the arrival of emergency ambulances to the location of emergencies believe that the Local Authority for Corralejo has the power to take RT3589 they being yellow such passed bag ' Delay dry flag -
