Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about the Citizen’s Advice as they are not a body within jurisdiction.

The complaint

Mr X complains that his Citizen’s Advice representative did not turn up to a tribunal hearing about his Universal Credit.

The Ombudsman’s role and powers

We investigate complaints about councils and certain other bodies. We cannot investigate the actions of bodies such as the Citizen’s Advice. (Local Government Act 1974, sections 25 and 34A, as amended)

My assessment

The Ombudsman cannot investigate a complaint against the Citizen’s Advice. Nor can he investigate complaints about Universal Credit as it is out of jurisdiction.
