Full Decision

Mr B complained about the treatment he received from Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (“the Health Board”), specifically whether a prescription of methadone (used in the treatment of opioid addiction) was managed appropriately and in keeping with relevant guidance and whether a decision not to prescribe anti depressant medication was appropriate and in keeping with relevant guidance.

The Ombudsman found that the prescription of methadone was managed appropriately and consistent with relevant prescribing guidance and clinical standards. This part of Mr B’s complaint was not upheld. The decision not to prescribe Mr B anti depressant medication was also appropriate, in keeping with relevant guidance and took in to account the situation in the prison at the time. This part of Mr B’s complaint was not upheld.
