With a General Election approaching we have sought to make this Report futureproof and believe that our conclusions and recommendations will remain applicable to future Administrations. It is important that the timing of the General Election does not stall necessary efforts by the Government, developers and deployers of AI to increase the level of public trust in a technology that has become a central part of our everyday lives. The Government thanks the Committee for its report, “Governance of AI”, and notes the conclusions and recommendations. We agree with the Committee that AI-specific legislation is required. We will shortly publish a consultation setting out our legislative proposals to establish binding regulations on the companies developing the most powerful AI models.
