The Government welcomes the findings of the committee in relation to the need to legislate for the safety of AI. As announced at the King’s Speech on 17 July 2024, the Government is proposing to establish appropriate legislation to place requirements on those working to develop the most powerful artificial intelligence models. The Government intends to consult on these proposals before bringing forward legislation, which will include how the most powerful AI models will be captured. We look forward to feedback from the committee on these proposals and on our wider priorities for AI. Government response to Committee conclusions and recommendations 8 – 15
