DSIT will be establishing a National Data Library, aiming to transform the way the Government manages our national data assets and to unlock the full value of our public data assets. This will provide simple, ethical, and secure access to public data assets, giving researchers and businesses powerful insights that will drive growth and transform people’s quality of life through better public services and cutting-edge innovation, including AI. To deliver this vision we will need to build trust with data owners, users, and the wider public. This will include ensuring that data – particularly sensitive, personal data – is held securely. Work is underway to design and implement the library, with decisions to be made in due course. The AI Opportunities Action Plan, produced by Matt Clifford, will set out the foundations needed for growing the AI sector and boosting AI adoption across the economy, and data access is a key part of that. More detailed recommendations will be available following the publication of the Action Plan. Government response to Committee conclusions and recommendations 45 and 46
