HM Government Accepted
The Government welcomes the Committee’s comments on the Wellbeing of Women’s period symptom checker and agrees that it is an excellent tool which has the potential to improve awareness and understanding of menstrual health problems and speed up access to care. The Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) is exploring ways to highlight the checker on the women’s health area of the NHS website. DHSC will provide a link on the NHS England website, subject to standard NHS governance and assurance processes, once relevant content is published on the NHS website, signposting to resources and support for common menstrual health conditions, which is scheduled for Summer 2024. The Government agrees that it would be beneficial for the checker to be available on the NHS app. NHS England (NHSE) has begun work with the Wellbeing of Women and other stakeholders to explore potential options for including the symptom checker as part of the app’s functionality. In addition, DHSC will work with the Wellbeing of Women to determine whether conditions such as irregular bleeding, depression, and anxiety, could also be captured by the checker.
