The government should liaise with the police and relevant stakeholders, such as The Law Society, to identify areas where shortages of duty solicitors are negatively impacting the administration of justice. The Lord Chancellor should use their powers under the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 (LASPO) section 2(2) to directly fund additional duty solicitors in these areas.
