The Government agrees that Barrow is essential to the delivery of AUKUS. Team Barrow and the £200 million Barrow Transformation Fund were created in recognition of the town’s vital importance to the Defence Nuclear Enterprise. As the Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry acknowledged in oral evidence, delivering the regeneration of Barrow will require activity and associated resourcing from Defence, other parts of Government, and the private sector. Team Barrow therefore prioritises attracting and securing further investment and strategic partnerships. The Prime Minister has instructed key departments to prioritise support for the programme, to fully exploit the wider opportunities available. As such, a strong cross-government approach to promote regeneration in Barrow, across health, education, transport and other public services. For example, in November 2025, the Government announced plans to provide £7 million to upgrade the Alfred Barrow Health Centre and is working closely with the wider area as part of the NHS Neighbourhood Rebuild programme.
