ACCEPT The Government welcomes the Committee’s interest in student funding and the role it plays in supporting student wellbeing. We recognise the importance of ensuring that the system continues to meet the needs of students, and we are committed to supporting the aspiration of every person who meets the requirements and wants to attend higher education. That is why we are reintroducing targeted, means-tested maintenance grants from academic year 2028/2029. These will provide disadvantaged students with up to £1,000 per year on top of existing maintenance loans, funded by a levy on providers for international students. We will continue to look for ways to improve the student finance system further for students, graduates and taxpayers, but these must be financially sustainable.
