The Department for Education, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government must work together to create a ‘golden thread’ of reading support across a child’s life and ensure that the forthcoming strategy for public libraries has reading for pleasure among children and young people at its heart. At a minimum, they must fully implement the findings of the 2023 review into public libraries, in particular those which relate to expanding library membership and more joined-up work on libraries in government.
